Palisades Reservoir

Just beyond Fall Creek Falls, you will find a large reservoir between the border of Idaho and Wyoming. This reservoir has created some beautiful land for hiking, camping, and boating. The drive around the entire reservoir is about 30 minutes of winding roads and breathtaking views.

Things to do

  1. Camp
  2. Boating
  3. Swimming
  4. Hike
  5. Explore

Directions

Type “Palisades” into your GPS and it will take you there without any problem. Make sure you choose the destination in Idaho! This is just further down the main road from Fall Creek Falls. Once you see the dam, you can follow the road around the entire reservoir until you make your way to Wyoming on the other side. Don’t hesitate to pull off at any pretty spots. Remember it is the journey, not necessarily the destination.

Distance

1hr to the dam 1hr 30min to the other side.

This may be a little hard to find and is mainly  a fun place during the spring and summer months. There is space to explore but the main attraction is  swimming. There is a narrow area of rock formed by lava where the water will shoot you through, almost as if you are going down a waterslide. You will find rocks on both sides of the bridge to jump off and into the water. Make sure you are choosing the deep spots so no injuries occur.  This is not one of most attractive destinations you will find, but it is sure a good time for swimming!

Things to do

  1. Swim
  2. Explore
  3. Small cliff jumping

Directions

This will not be found in your GPS, so follow these instructions closely. From Rexburg, you will want to get on Highway 20 heading north. You will drive past St Anthony and Twin Groves. One you hit Chester, the road will go from a four-lane highway with a median to a two-way highway without a median. This is where you need to start paying attention. In about one mile from the highway change, you will cross over a bridge with a railroad bridge to the right. Directly after the bridge, you will want to pull off to the right of the road. Walk south to towards the river and you will see what you are looking for. Don’t be afraid to explore the area to find different things to do.

Warm Slough

This is another summer/spring time destination. Henry’s Fork is a meandering river that has formed one large meander where you can park one car, tube about 45min around the meander, and then get out to be fairly close to your car that you parked at the beginning. There are also places to camp and have fires. Beware of moose! I have spotted moose in the river multiple time throughout my tubing trips. I would recommend going with someone that has done this before to make sure you don’t miss the drop off point! A great afternoon could turn into a miserable day. I would also recommend taking some sandals or shoes So that you can walk back to your car without hurting your feet on the rocks.

Things to do

  1. Tube
  2. Swim
  3. Camp
  4. Fire

Directions

Google Maps will get you where you need to go when typing “warm slough.” The trick is knowing where to get off for tubing. Once at Warm Slough, there are many places to get into the water, but don’t miss your exit! The exit is about where  Google Maps ends it’s destination. If you are looking for a longer ride, about 45 min depending on water speed, load into the water at your first dirt road on the left, once turning off of White Slough Rd onto the gravel. For a shorter ride, you can find a few other spots to get into down the road.
