Caves

Civil Defense

These caves have large spaces to explore as well as smaller areas to squeeze into. Don’t get too excited about getting to far because most little shoot offs end quickly. Stop at the big openings to play some games such as hide and seek (with glow sticks) or have a cave dance party. Be sure to bring a jacket and a headlamp or flashlight.

Things to do

  1. Explore the caves
  2. Play glow stick sardines (hide & seek)
  3. Dance Party

Directions

This, once difficult place to find, can now be found on Google Maps by typing in “Civil Defense Caves.” The caves are considered to be in St. Anthony. Don’t drive too far or you might drive right into the pit!

Ice Caves

These caves are small without very much area to explore. The exciting part about these caves are the ice floors to slide on. You can slide through one room to another as if you were on a bobsled team. Be careful of falling and be prepared to get wet. I would suggest having a headlamp/flashlight, wearing gloves, a jacket, and waterproof pants (or at least a waterproof butt for sliding). A four-wheel drive, high clearance vehicle is recommended for the drive. The road can be quite bumpy.

Things to do

  1. Explore the cave
  2. Slide around

Directions

Use Google Maps and type in “Ice Caves” and pick the caves in Island Park. This is not easy to find either so using Google Maps is your best bet.
